There are more than 14 miles of marked trails available for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding in the Allamuchy Natural Area.
There also are more than 20 miles of unmarked trails available for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding in the Northern Section of Allamuchy Mountain State Park. A 3 mile section of the Sussex Branch Trail starts at Waterloo Road and goes northwest to Cranberry Lake. Using an old railroad bed, this trail provides the hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders easy access from Waterloo Road through Kittatinny Valley State Park to Branchville, New Jersey. A 10 mile section of the Highlands Trail goes from the northern boundary of Allamuchy Mt. State Park off Route 206 through Stephens State Park. The difficulty of the trails range from moderate to rugged.
Chimney Rock (Washington Valley Park)
Washington Valley Park consists of approximately 705 acres that lie along the First Watchung Ridge in Bridgewater Township. The park contains the former Bound Brook Elizabethtown Reservoir that will become the focal point of the park along a network of trails.
The park is located between the first and second Watchung Mountains at the geographic center of Somerset County. It consists of Pine and Hemlock forests, open freshwater wetland marshes, impressive rock outcroppings, numerous historic features and a 21-acre reservoir. Washington Valley Park offers several recreational opportunities in an undisturbed natural setting, including hiking, mountain biking, and hawk watching. The more than twelve miles of trails are great for hiking, and some of the best mountain biking in the state.

The 17-mile trail system of this 787-acre park includes 3 miles of paved paths closed to vehicular traffic in the Rocky Point Section. Hardy hikers, bicyclists, and casual walkers can all find trails to their liking. Monmouth County Parks denotes Rocky Point Trail (in Rocky Point Section of Hartshorne Woods)as a black diamond trail which signifies challenging trail with obstructions and steep grades.
Named for Lewis Morris, the first Governor of the State of New Jersey, this Park
was the first to be opened in the Morris County Park System in March, 1958. The
original 350 acres have grown to a total of 1154 acres, which includes a lake
recreation area, Parcourse Exercise Circuit, three ballfields, a group camping
area and six distinct picnic areas. The newest of these, Deer Run, was
officially opened at the Rededication Ceremonies on September 25, 1988.
